Tezlom is currently recruiting for an IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advisor) with an outreach focus. You will provide vital support and advocacy to victims of domestic abuse, working both directly with individuals and collaborating with other agencies to ensure safety and access to services, often in a community setting.

Location: Wandsworth

Days/Hours: 3 days a week 9am-5pm

Pay Rates: £14.20 per hour

Job Type: Temp to Perm

Main Duties:

  • Deliver advocacy services for all (male and female) high-risk survivors of domestic abuse whilst they are in hospital or accessing healthcare services.
  • Deal with caseloads, maintaining accurate and confidential case records.
  • Advocate for victims' rights and needs within the criminal justice system and other relevant agencies.
  • Provide a single point of access to males and females at all levels of risk, aiming to return calls within 24 hours.
  • Offer face-to-face appointments in a healthcare setting or in the community.
  • Help survivors and their families become safe and recover from abuse.
  • Work towards key outcomes on survivors’ recovery journey.
  • Develop and regularly review person-centred support plans to address individual support needs relating to domestic abuse, legal advice, housing needs, tenancy support, support of children, access to learning or employment dependent on the individual's aspirations and needs.
  • Support victims at the point of crisis identifying a range of options available, including access to civil or criminal legal routes, housing options, social welfare benefits and safety planning.
  • Create and provide a detailed safety plan for those experiencing domestic abuse and ensure that this is communicated to the appropriate services and make relevant referrals at discharge to reduce risks.
  • Signpost and target casework and volunteer support for victims identified as medium to lower risk by risk assessment criteria and professional judgement.
  • Make appropriate adult and child safeguarding referrals when safeguarding issues are raised.
  • Work in partnership with other agencies to ensure an effective, coordinated community response to survivors of domestic violence and their children.
  • Ensure that the Lone Working policy is adhered to, and have a risk assessment in place.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • A strong understanding of the dynamics of domestic abuse, its impact on victims, and the various forms it can take.
  • Excellent communication, listening, and empathy skills are essential for building rapport with victims and advocating on their behalf.
  • Ability to advocate effectively for victims' rights and needs within the criminal justice system and other agencies.
  • Ability to assess and manage risks effectively, ensuring the safety of victims and their families.
  • Ability to manage cases effectively, maintain accurate records, and facilitate appropriate referrals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of victims.
  • Understanding and respect for diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
  • Experience working with victims of domestic abuse.
