We are seeking an organised and proactive General Haulage Planner to coordinate daily transport operations within a busy haulage environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning vehicle routes, allocating loads, managing driver schedules, and ensuring deliveries are completed efficiently, safely, and on time. This is at a busy and growing depot.

The role requires strong communication skills, excellent geographical knowledge, and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced logistics operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and schedule daily vehicle routes and driver allocations
  • Coordinate collections and deliveries across the UK
  • Maximise vehicle utilisation and minimise empty running
  • Monitor driver hours and ensure compliance with transport legislation and Working Time Directive regulations
  • Liaise with drivers, customers, warehouses, and subcontractors
  • Respond quickly to operational issues including delays, breakdowns, and route changes
  • Ensure all transport documentation is completed accurately
  • Maintain regular communication with customers regarding delivery schedules and updates
  • Use transport management systems (TMS) and tracking software effectively
  • Support the transport team with general operational duties as required
Skills & Experience Required
  • Previous experience in transport planning or haulage operations preferred
  • Good understanding of UK road transport regulations and tachograph rules
  • Strong geographical knowledge of the UK road network
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage changing priorities
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Competent IT skills including Microsoft Office and transport planning systems
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable Qualifications
  • CPC Transport Management knowledge or qualification
  • Experience using transport management software
  • Experience within general haulage or pallet network operations
