Role Overview
TEXO Recruitment are working in partnership with one of the UK’s largest port operators to recruit an Electrical & Controls Engineer to join their Marine Engineering team based in Hartlepool. This is a key engineering role supporting the design, integration, maintenance, and optimisation of electrical and control systems across a complex operational environment. The position offers a blend of project-based work and operational support within a safety-critical, regulated industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop electrical and control systems, including PLCs, SCADA, HMIs, and associated automation hardware and software.
- Produce functional design specifications, control philosophies, and technical documentation.
- Work closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to integrate control systems into wider mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
- Carry out testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical and control systems.
- Support ongoing maintenance and optimisation, improving system availability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Diagnose and resolve faults on electrical and control systems, implementing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Ensure all work complies with relevant electrical standards, health & safety legislation, and environmental requirements.
- Prepare and maintain technical reports, manuals, drawings, and system documentation.
- Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, including planning, execution, and handover.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree-qualified (BEng/MEng) in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Strong experience with PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Bachmann, or similar IEC programming platforms).
- Knowledge of SCADA and HMI systems and AC/DC motor drives (e.g. Siemens, ABB).
- Ability to read, interpret, and produce electrical and control schematics.
- Experience with industrial automation, instrumentation, and communication protocols such as Profibus, Profinet, RS232, TCP/IP, and fibre optic systems.
- Strong analytical and fault-finding skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams and meet project deadlines.
