LOCATION: Hartlepool
Job Purpose: To support the Engineering team by delivering high-quality maintenance and fault resolution on a range of port assets, including harbour mobile cranes, mobile plant, and site-based electrical systems. The role involves both reactive and preventative maintenance with a focus on ensuring safety, reliability, and minimal downtime across operations.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
- Time-served technical apprenticeship in a relevant electrical discipline (Essential)
- ONC / Level 3 qualification (minimum) – HNC/HND preferred
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a heavy industrial environment
- High-level knowledge in the following areas:
- Safe isolation procedures and electrical safety practices
- AC/DC motors and drivetrains up to 400kW
- Electromechanical devices (solenoids, thrusters, actuators)
- Power electronics (inverters, rectifiers)
- Motor control methods (soft start, VSDs, resistance banks)
- Switching devices (relays, contactors, proximity switches, circuit breakers)
- 12v/24v mobile plant systems and CanBus systems
- Building and lighting electrical systems
Responsibilities:
- Respond promptly to breakdowns, diagnosing and repairing faults efficiently
- Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance and inspections on cranes and equipment
- Ensure work is completed in line with safety regulations and best practices
- Support the engineering team with planned projects and maintenance activities
- Maintain accurate records of work carried out and parts used
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure effective coordination of tasks
- Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring issues and recommending solutions
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping in all work areas
- Liaise with suppliers and technical teams when needed to support maintenance efforts
- Participate in safety audits and contribute to a proactive HSE culture
