  • Design & Project Engineer for one of our valued clients located in

Killingworth .

This varied role combines CAD design with project management, giving you the opportunity to develop bespoke engineering solutions while managing projects from concept through to completion.

Working closely with engineering, operations and site teams, you'll transform customer requirements into safe, practical and cost- effective designs, providing technical support throughout the project lifecycle.

  • CAD Design & Engineering
  • Produce high-quality 2D and 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings for bespoke lifting equipment and engineered lifting solutions.
  • Design and develop lifting beams, spreader beams, lifting frames, and other specialist lifting equipment to meet customer requirements.
  • Create detailed manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly drawings, along with comprehensive engineering documentation.
  • Perform engineering calculations and structural assessments to validate designs where required.
  • Collaborate closely with fabrication and production teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and cost-effective.
  • Review, modify, and enhance existing designs in response to customer feedback, operational requirements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate drawing revisions and engineering documentation in accordance with company quality procedures.
  • Project Engineering
  • Manage engineering projects from initial enquiry through design, manufacture, installation, and final completion.
  • Develop compliant lifting plans and engineered solutions in accordance with relevant legislation and industry standards.
  • Coordinate project schedules, resources, budgets, and technical deliverables to ensure successful project execution.
  • Provide technical support during manufacture, installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Prepare technical documentation, engineering reports, risk assessments, and project records.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Client & Technical Support
  • Engage with customers to understand project requirements and provide practical engineering solutions.
  • Offer expert technical advice throughout the project lifecycle, identifying innovative and value-driven design solutions.
  • Work collaboratively with Operations, Sales, Procurement, and Site Services to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through professional communication, technical expertise, and excellent customer service.
  • Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure all engineering designs comply with applicable legislation, British Standards, and industry best practice.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture throughout all engineering and project activities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, helping to develop engineering processes, design standards, and quality systems.

Essential

  • Degree, HNC, or HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience using 2D and 3D CAD software such as Solid Works, Autodesk Inventor, Auto CAD, or similar.
  • Experience producing detailed manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly drawings.
  • Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and mechanical design principles.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a methodical approach to engineering.
  • Strong communication, planning and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Full UK driving license.

Desirable

  • Experience within the lifting equipment, crane, heavy engineering, or structural steel industries.
  • Knowledge of LOLER, BS 7121, and other relevant lifting industry standards.
  • Experience carrying out engineering calculations and structural assessments.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or actively working towards professional registration.
