TEXO Recruitment are currently working with our external client - a well-established engineering and fabrication business to source an experienced Fabrication Estimator to join its team in Aberdeen. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially aware individual with a strong background in fabrication to play a key role in supporting project delivery and business growth.
The Fabrication Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates across a range of fabrication projects, including structural steel and pipework. The role involves reviewing technical documentation, conducting material and labour take-offs, and coordinating closely with internal teams, suppliers, and clients to ensure all estimates are accurate, complete, and aligned with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed pricing estimates including full material and labour take-offs
- Compile complete project costings incorporating subcontractor and vendor pricing
- Liaise with external vendors to obtain competitive, project-specific quotations within deadlines
- Coordinate with operations and suppliers to determine fabrication and installation methods (shop and site-based)
- Engage with clients to ensure full understanding of project scope, schedule, and requirements
- Review technical drawings, specifications, and documentation to ensure accuracy of estimates
- Support tender submissions and commercial proposals
- Assist management with additional duties as required
Requirements
- Proven experience in a fabrication estimating role or similar
- Strong understanding of structural steel and pipework fabrication and erection practices
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, design specifications, and construction documents
- Knowledge of material grades, industry standards, and fabrication terminology
- Understanding of welding processes and associated standards
- Familiarity with subcontracted services such as NDT, coating, and machining
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- Offshore fabrication experience is advantageous but not essential
