TEXO Recruitment are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Senior Estimator on behalf of our external client for work in Aberdeen. The suitable candidate will lead the estimating function across a diverse portfolio of civil engineering projects. This role is critical in delivering accurate, competitive, and commercially robust tender submissions that support the company’s continued growth and success.
Working closely with operational, commercial, and planning teams, you will manage the full tender lifecycle from initial enquiry through to final submission, ensuring methodology, programme, risks, and opportunities are fully evaluated and reflected within pricing strategies.
Daily duties include:
- Lead the preparation and delivery of detailed cost estimates for civil engineering tenders.
- Review and interpret ITT documentation, technical drawings, specifications, and contract conditions, including NEC forms of contract.
- Produce accurate take-offs and develop first-principles rates covering labour, plant, materials, temporary works, and subcontract packages.
- Obtain, evaluate, and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Prepare tender clarifications, assumptions, qualifications, and exclusions.
Candidate Requirements:
- Proven estimating experience within the civil engineering sector, including areas such as earthworks, drainage, highways, structures, or utilities.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to build estimates from first principles.
- Good understanding of NEC contracts and UK construction procurement processes.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and work effectively under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Full UK driving licence.
Qualifications/Certifications:
- HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.
- Experience using estimating software such as Causeway, Candy, CostX, or Bluebeam.
- Membership of a recognised professional body such as ICE, CIOB, or RICS.
