This is a full time post, fixed term for 12 months. You will join an existing establishment of Physicians in the Medicine and Emergency Care Division. The post will suit someone with ambition and drive to provide high quality inpatient services in a high performing Trust. You will be expected to contribute to work striving for continuous improvement in the care of inpatients with general medical conditions. We are looking for someone who will contribute to our services, gaining experience in leading and delivering care as a consultant in a friendly, supportive team.
You will be expected to have completed CESR in General (Internal) Medicine, completed Higher Specialist Training or be within six months of obtaining your Certificate of Completion of Training and entry onto the GMC Specialist Register. Opportunities are available and will be supported by the division, for development of a special interest, and/or allocation of a session to allow focus on quality improvement and service development. Upon successful appointment, it is envisaged that you will bring experience which will complement and strengthen acute care at the Royal, and the role can be adapted to incorporate a developing or established clinical interest for the right candidate. Anyone wishing to explore working less than full time will be eligible to be considered for the post; modification of the job plan will be discussed on an individual basis.

Person Specification:
- Essential Qualifications: MRCP or equivalent, Full GMC registration with Licence to Practice.
- Desirable: Specialist interest or additional qualifications in other areas of specialty, Higher degree, Entry on GMC Specialist Register in General Internal Medicine or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview.
- Essential Experience: Higher specialist training scheme in General Internal Medicine, Experience in the management of acutely ill patients, Experience of risk management and quality governance, Evidence of Audit and/or research activity, Experience of supervising junior doctors.
- Desirable: Experience in a similar post, Experience as an educational supervisor or clinical tutor, Clinical leadership experience or training.
- Essential Skills: Ability to teach clinical skills, Ability to supervise postgraduate research.
- Desirable: Sound knowledge of multiple NHS structure and systems, Ability to adapt to change and lead change effectively, Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
