Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Mental Health (PICU)

This is an exciting opportunity for an adult mental health consultant psychiatrist to become involved the PICU service.

PICU facilitiesare provided at the 10 bedded Bedale Ward, which is also based at RoseberryPark Hospital, Middlesbrough.

In additionto the inpatient services at Roseberry Park Hospital are provided within threeacute commissioned admissions units, in a total of 52 beds distributed in threesingle sex wards

Theinpatient services, led by a team of consultant psychiatrists, will besupported by Specialty Doctors and SpRs. There is existing additional support from onenon-medical AC trained consultant to adult services in the Roseberry ParkHospital

Main duties of the job

The post holder will act as ResponsibleClinician for In Patients on Bedale Ward, shared with the Consultant or HighlySpecialised Psychologist

The post holder (in conjunction with theSpecialist Psychologist) will provide committed, proactive and responsibleleadership, and support the Force Reduction drivers

The consultants will jointly chair the 24 hour morningReport Out meeting when decisions are made about patient care and themanagement plan, risk and leave arrangements are reviewed. Tasks are allocated at the meeting andreviewed the following morning.

The Consultant will attend and fully contributeto the 72 formulation meeting (when admission to PICU occurs beforeformulation) and transfer/discharge planning meetings for their own patients

The Consultant will undertake seclusion reviewson Bedale Ward for their own patients

The Consultant will be responsible for MentalHealth Act work including acting as Approved clinician for Bedale Ward patients

The Consultant will provide appropriatesupervision to Junior Medical Staff

The Consultant will be expected to liaise withother ward and community teams and Consultants

Consultantannual leave is arranged with the Consultant Psychologist and ConsultantPsychiatrist colleagues

Qualifications

• MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
• Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
• Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or within 6 months of gaining CCT
• Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
• Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
• Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
• MRCPsych or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
• Included on the GMC Specialist Register in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Clinical Knowledge & Skills

• Excellent knowledge in specialty Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge Excellent oral and written communication skills in English Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
• Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
