Part‑time (15 hrs per week) 12‑month fixed‑term contract, working within the Scarborough Community Mental Health team for Older People. In the event we are unable to appoint a successful candidate to the Band 4 Medical Secretary role, a developmental Medical Secretary role at Band 3 will be considered. Those who do not meet the Band 4 criteria but meet all of the Band 3 criteria are encouraged to apply on this basis. In a developmental role, it is expected that the post holder has the time, support and training to consolidate and enhance the skills and knowledge required to perform at the Band 4 level. The post holder should complete the relevant qualifications and competency framework within the 12‑month fixed‑term timeframe before progressing to Band 4. You must have the Right to Work in the UK to be successfully appointed to this role. This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa, so sponsorship cannot be offered.
Main duties of the job: This role is at the heart of the multi‑disciplinary team and works closely with consultants, junior doctors, nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists and management to ensure they have the administrative support needed to provide the best possible care to patients. We are looking for someone who is comfortable multitasking in a busy environment, confident offering supervisory support to other admin staff, able to communicate confidently, build strong working relationships, prioritise workloads, and is genuinely interested in supporting the challenges of mental health care. Your main duties will be to provide comprehensive admin support to the consultant and medical team, which includes digital dictation and/or copy typing of patient letters, diary management, MDT/CLS minute taking, and recording confidential and sensitive information on Trust systems accurately and timely. You will work with the team administrator to deliver admin support, attend regular meetings to improve knowledge, minute meetings, keep accurate records, and receive a job plan and fully supported induction.

Person Specification:
Qualifications:- Level 3 qualification in a relevant field or equivalent experience, or willingness to work towards Level 3 in Business Administration
- Key skills/functional skills in literacy and numeracy Level 2 (or O Level Grade C and above; New GCSE in Maths and English Grade 4–9) essential for full competency
- RSA Level 2 or equivalent secretarial/administrative experience in a clinical environment
- Experience in an administrative environment (diary management, filing systems, meeting coordination, minute taking, data input, collating and presenting information)
- Customer service experience (face‑to‑face, answering calls, correspondence)
- Experience organising demands and workloads
- Experience setting up and maintaining administrative systems and processes
- Experience working autonomously and proactively
- Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Understanding of data protection and confidentiality requirements
- Knowledge of office systems and processes
- Knowledge of NHS systems
- Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload and work on own initiative within procedures
