Location: NYYS CAMHS Crisis Service, Locality wide – Foss Park Hospital. The role is part of the North Yorkshire, York and Selby (NYYS) CAMHS Crisis Team, which provides a 24/7 service to young people under 18 and their carers/families across most of North Yorkshire, York and Selby.
Responsibilities
- Conduct psycho-social assessments and formulate risk assessments and care-plans with robust safety plans.
- Collaborate with young people, carers and other professionals during periods of high distress.
- Provide a consistent approach to clinical situations, delivering safe care to young people and families.
- Lead shifts, direct junior staff, and make sound clinical decisions in crisis situations.
- Communicate effectively with young people, families and multidisciplinary team members.
- Work autonomously, travelling independently across the locality and using a suitable vehicle.
- Coordinate day‑to‑day running of shifts, ensuring efficient team operation.
- Identify and report safeguarding concerns, abuse or neglect and take reasonable steps to protect young people.
- Support and supervise junior staff as required.
- Provide care, including triage for callers via the 111 mental‑health line, especially for those aged 16‑18.
Qualifications
- Current professional registration with the appropriate body in health care or social work.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- 18 months post‑qualifying experience with required preceptorship or competency framework.
- Relevant mentor or supervisor sign‑off as applicable.
- Key skills in literacy, numeracy and IT training level 2 (or equivalent).
- Certificate in teaching & assessing in clinical practice where applicable.
- Recognised training in facilitation of parenting groups.
- Recognised qualification in a specific model of therapy (e.g. family therapy, CBT).
Experience
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary team.
- Providing clinical supervision.
- Collaborating with young people and families.
- Supervising or assessing students on clinical placements.
- Significant experience working with children and young people with mental ill‑health in a community setting.
- Leadership or management experience.
Knowledge
- Understanding of relevant legislation (MHA, MCA, Children’s Act).
- Understanding of safeguarding and its application in practice.
- Clinical risk assessment and management and its application in practice.
- Post‑graduate level knowledge of evidence‑based practice in caring for patients in the designated field.
- Care Programme Approach and its application in practice.
- Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment.
- Knowledge of the Trust’s QIS system.
Skills
- Leadership and ability to monitor, coordinate and prioritise team activities.
- Effective communication of complex and sensitive information to young people, families and multidisciplinary team members.
- Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and undertake lead professional and care coordination responsibilities.
