Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust Community Learning Disability Registered Nurse. ALD North Tees Community Team provides services across both Stockton and Hartlepool with a base in each locality and is made up of Nursing, Psychiatry, Psychology and AHP's (including Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy) staff. The team works collectively and collaboratively with others to ensure a high standard of care is provided and are always willing to go above and beyond what is expected when required. The team works in partnership with key partners to ensure people with a diagnosed learning disability and their families and carers are supported by delivering high quality clinical care. The service operates 7 days a week, with cover from 8am to 8pm, with the expectation that the post holder will take part in the weekend rota.

This role may be eligible for sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. However, sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements; therefore, we recommend that you assess your eligibility before applying for this position.

Main duties of the job

Whether you're an experienced Registered Nurse or a Newly Registered Nurse, this is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a service that puts patient care first. You will have the time and support to make a real difference every day. Student Nurses that are due to register in the next 3 months are very welcome to apply. Full training and Preceptorship programme will be provided to help you build confidence and develop your career in this specialist area.

The successful candidate will hold and manage a caseload, working collaboratively with service users, their families, carers and partner agencies. The post holder will require excellent communication skills and be calm, confident and resilient in your approach, and will need to be able to form therapeutic relationships. The post holder should be flexible, adaptable and be able to travel independently during the course of their duties. This is a perfect opportunity to gain skills and specialist knowledge across the spectrum of health and social care.

Person Specification

  • Current professional registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council RNMH or RNLD (RNSC - CAMHS only) - RGN (If appropriate)
  • To be recognised practice assessor / mentor or work towards in an agreed timescale
  • Trained Clinical Supervisor (within 6 month probationary period)
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

Experience

  • Working with people with learning disabilities/ mental ill health
  • Working in a person-centred therapeutic organisation
  • Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Working in partnership with other agencies

Knowledge

  • Evidence-based knowledge of best practice in caring for patients in the designated field
  • Understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act)
  • Understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice
  • Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice
  • Clinical Governance and its application in practice
  • Confident working knowledge of clinical medicines management, including administration of injections
