We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Mental Health Team Manager to join our mental health team at HMP Full Sutton, a Category A men\βs prison located near York. The closing date is 17 February 2026.
The Team Manager will lead by example with strong, visible leadership, adopting a flexible approach to managing day-to-day operational aspects of the service, ensuring agreed standards are maintained, and leading, motivating and developing the team. The role will work within a multi-disciplinary service, collaborating with senior clinical staff to deliver comprehensive mental health care in a high-security prison environment. The Team Manager will work in partnership with other healthcare providers, HMPPS, and internal and external Health and Justice services across the region.
Main duties of the job
The Clinical Team Manager will provide day-to-day operational leadership and management of the Mental Health Team, ensuring the highest professional standards, clinical governance, and evidence-based practice. They will play a pivotal role in establishing and shaping this new service, ensuring safe, effective and compassionate care within a complex high-security environment.
The post holder will demonstrate excellent communication, engagement and collaborative working skills, with substantial experience in mental health services and, ideally, an understanding of the criminal justice system. They will provide visible leadership, oversee staff management processes, support clinical decision-making, and ensure the team meets the requirements of the service specification and national Health & Justice standards.
As part of TEWV\\\βs Health & Justice Care Group, the Team Manager will work closely with their peer group across the North East and Yorkshire prison estate, contributing to consistent, high-quality service delivery across all establishments where TEWV provides care. They will also work in partnership with HMPPS, healthcare providers and wider regional stakeholders to support integrated, person-centred pathways.

Qualifications
- Current professional registration with appropriate body in healthcare or social work.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
- Certificate in teaching & assessing in Clinical Practice as appropriate to own profession.
- Clinical Supervisor
- Recognised sign-off mentor or equivalent for students (within agreed timescale).
- Leadership or management qualification or willingness to work towards. Qualification must be achieved within agreed timescale.
- Quality Improvement Systems for Leaders or willing to undertake within agreed timescale.
- Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
- Post-graduate diploma in a relevant area
Experience
- Significant experience working with people with complex mental ill health or learning disabilities in a community setting.
- Significant experience of working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers
- Significant experience of providing clinical supervision, mentoring and teaching to healthcare professionals and students.
- Demonstrable leadership or management experience
- Experience working in Forensic Mental Health or other secure setting.
Knowledge
- Significant evidenced based knowledge to post-graduate level equivalent, of best practice in caring for patients in the designated field.
- Good understanding of clinical governance and its application in practice.
- Detailed understanding of Care Programme Approach and its application in practice.
- Detailed understanding of Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice.
