A rare opportunity has arisen within Health and Justice Services for a Speech and Language Therapist to work in the Primrose service at HMP/ YOI Low Newton. Primrose is a specialist residential treatment service for women with complex psychological needs as part of the women's OPD pathway. The service offers 12 places integrated within the establishment. You would be joining an enthusiastic service that places emphasis on staff development and reflective practice with a range of therapeutic orientations being represented in the team. You would be part of a dynamic SLT service in TEWV, with well-defined peer support, supervision & CPD opportunities and join a growing, supportive H&J SLT team who work into several prisons.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have a degree in Speech and Language Therapy and have experience as such, including working with service users with complex needs e.g. mental health and neurodivergence. Experience working with people who have experienced trauma or within women's services would be an advantage.

The successful applicant will be responsible for providing assessment and intervention with residents with speech, language and communication needs/ swallowing. You will work as integral part of the Primrose multi-disciplinary team and within the wider women's pathway. You will work with individuals and their supporters by providing communication advice and strategies. The post holder will raise awareness and improve the workforce's knowledge and skills in SLC needs and provide evidence-based therapy within a Multi-disciplinary framework.

The successful applicants' objectives will be to provide an exemplary and comprehensive assessment of SLCN for all eligible referred individuals. You will work as an integrated multi-disciplinary team and provide evidence-based therapy within a trauma informed framework. You will operate within a robust clinical operating framework and provide high quality advice and training to the team and partners.

This role is subject to Prison Vetting, and the successful candidate must pass this before commencing employment. Please note that vetting checks may also extend to family members and associates. You must also have resided in the UK for 3 years at the point of application. Person Specification

Experience

• Minimum 18 months post qualifying experience of Speech and Language Therapy delivery (at the point of application)
• Experience of supporting people with mental health issues, learning disability or autism
• Experience of working in Multidisciplinary Team (SW essential criteria)

Qualifications

• Appropriate professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy role
• Current relevant registration with specific regulatory body
• Post graduate training in relevant specialist area

Knowledge

• Understanding of the needs of service users with mental health conditions or learning disabilities.
• Knowledge of evidence based practice in designated specialist area
• Awareness of professional standards and its application to practice
