We require friendly, positive thinking, organized and motivated individuals to work as a Porter/Storeperson within the Trust's Hotel Services Team at Lanchester Road Hospital Durham. The Porter/Storeperson is responsible for providing and maintaining cleaning and catering services as part of the Hotel Services team to office, patient and communal areas within the Trust, ensuring a clean, safe and supportive environment for staff and patients working towards their recovery.

You will need to be passionate and enthusiastic about patient care, putting patients at the heart of everything you do. You will be working in a multi-professional team and will need to be able to think on the spot and be empathetic, while creating a culture of continuous improvement. The post holder will be based at Lanchester Road Hospital Durham DH1 5 RD and will be required to work four different shift patterns – 6:30‑3, 7‑3:30, 2‑10 and 10‑7.

Experience in cleaning duties and use of chemicals and equipment are essential as you will be working in a demanding environment. Catering and food service experience would be beneficial, along with a passion for providing high standards of customer service.

Main duties of the job:

  • Provide cleaning and catering services as part of a team to office, patient and communal areas within the Trust.
  • Interact compassionately with patients and carers at all times, recognising that patients may have a range of mental health conditions or learning disabilities.
  • Show commitment to and participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Promote at all times a positive image of people with mental health conditions and learning disabilities.
  • Promote at all times a positive image of Hotel Services and the wider Trust.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: Numeracy and literacy to Level 1, Basic IT and keyboard skills, NVQ Level 2 in Housekeeping or equivalent related to the role.
  • Experience: Experience in use of cleaning materials and equipment.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Able to follow instructions and understand written and verbal communication, Knowledge of stock control, Knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH, Knowledge of National Standard of Cleanliness, Knowledge of PEAT.
