We are looking to recruit a full‑time, permanent Craftsperson (Mechanical) Plumber based at Lanchester Road Hospital. The main purpose of the role is to carry out a schedule of pre‑planned maintenance works to comply with statutory and mandatory compliance regulations. You will also be carrying out reactive works as part of our PPM programme. You will be part of a small, busy team maintaining the Trust’s properties in the Durham areas, using the Estates Transport where necessary. Due to the nature of the role, applicants must be able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. Adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010. Work is distributed using the MICAD and Zetasafe programmes, so awareness of this type of system would be an advantage, but all relevant training will be given. This role may be eligible for sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. However, sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements, therefore, please assess your eligibility before applying.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide an efficient and cost‑effective maintenance and repair service to all properties owned or leased by the Trust. This includes installation and improvement work across all contracted sites, in accordance with organisational standards and national legislation, and assisting other trades and contractors as required. The post holder must test and maintain all tools, equipment and machinery to meet current requirements at all times. Work must be undertaken in accordance with Health and Safety requirements to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, contractors and visitors. Employees will participate in the Estates out‑of‑hours on‑call service. While on‑call, the post holder is required to demonstrate a high degree of cross‑trade flexibility beyond the core skills, including electrical and building maintenance works, supported with in‑house training. Additional duties include maintenance and operation of equipment, statutory testing of safety devices and specialised plant. The post holder must promote a positive image of people with mental health conditions and learning disabilities, and the Estates Department.

Job responsibilities
You will work with a small engineering team based in Durham and regularly liaise with building colleagues to assist each other where necessary to carry out workloads. Person Specification
- Successful completion of a recognised Plumbing bias apprenticeship NVQ Level 3 (Plumbing) or equivalent
- Numeracy and Literacy to Level 2
- Working knowledge of mechanical (H&C water systems) in complex properties
- Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical plant including boilers and diesel engines
- Good working knowledge of health and safety legislation, British Standards and ACOPs relevant to the trade
- Understanding of associated trades and relationships
- Ability to travel independently in accordance with Trust policies
- Subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check
- Will participate in the on‑call rota as required
- Ability to manage time and prioritise effectively
