We are looking to recruit 2 full-time consultants to work on Elm Ward and Maple Ward – the two acute admission wards in West Park Hospital, Darlington. Elm Ward is a female acute ward and Maple Ward a male acute ward. Both wards are 20-bedded inpatient units and there are 4 beds commissioned by the Ministry of Defence across the two wards. The post holders will provide clinical input to approximately 10 to 12 patients on both wards, depending on acuity, and will work closely with another Consultant Psychiatrist (1.0 WTE).
Main duties of the job
The principal duty of Consultants is to support the inpatient team. Four Consultant Psychiatrists (4 WTE) support the two acute wards at West Park Hospital alongside a Consultant Nurse. The post holders will provide leadership to the multidisciplinary team alongside the team manager, contribute to service development and to clinical governance, and set and maintain standards with a commitment to quality improvement.

- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
- Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of gaining CCT
- Approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
- Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
- In good standing with GMC regarding warnings and conditions on practice
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register
