Main duties of the job

The IPS Employment Assistant will support the IPS Employment Specialist in day-to-day IPS delivery, helping clients with job search, CV development, employment applications, interview support and use of electronic employment programmes. This includes developing opportunities with local employers and partners to ensure the right person is in the right job.

Job responsibilities

The successful applicant will provide support to the IPS Employment Specialist in monitoring support systems for clients during their IPS journey, delivering in-work support, and engaging effectively with partner agencies, employers, clients and their families.

Applicants should be dynamic, motivated, with excellent communication skills and a commitment to employment and social inclusion. Applicants must be able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Numeracy and literacy level 2 (or above) or must be achieved within 12 months.
  • Level 3 information, advice, and guidance or must be achieved within 18 months of commencement.
  • Care Certificate must be achieved within 12 weeks of commencement.
  • Evidence of additional qualifications relevant to the role.
  • Previous experience in employment support.
  • Previous experience of working with people with mental health problems, learning disability and/or autism.

Skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with MDT members.
  • Ability to deliver IPS support interventions competently.
  • Ability to communicate information verbally and in writing effectively.
  • Adherence to Trust record‑keeping standards.
  • Ability to adapt IPS interventions within scope of practice under guidance.
  • Ability to plan, organise a caseload and prioritise effectively.
  • Full compliance with statutory and mandatory training.
  • Completion of CfMH “Doing what works” IPS training (or equivalent).
  • Ability to use employment‑related platforms/software packages.
  • Demonstrate IPS and service‑specific competencies.
  • Can meet physical requirements of the role, with reasonable adjustments as needed.
  • Ability to lead a group session.
