Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Mental Health Community

This post forms part of the Directorate of Adult Mental Health within the North Yorkshire and Yorkshire Locality area of Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust. Adult community mental health services are directly commissioned across two Clinical Commissioning Groups – Richmondshire and Whitby CCG and the Scarborough and Ryedale CCG.

This exciting 10 PA post has come about due to increased financial provision into the area. The post will be shared with another full‑time consultant who will work in the central area of the city. It covers the provision of medical leadership to the Outer area of the Scarborough Community Mental Health Team (SICT). The community team continues to operate as one community team.

The job is split into three sessions of Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) and seven sessions of Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and it is hoped that the post‑holder will be encouraged to use the SPA provision within this post to engage in research, education or service development in conjunction with local colleagues.

The post holder will provide consultant leadership in line with the principles of New Ways of Working to the Outer section of the Community Mental Health Team in Scarborough. The community team is based at The Ellis Centre. It delivers care based on the principles of Productive and Purposeful Care (PPC) to improve the quality and efficiency of our patients’ care journey.

The post‑holder’s core clinical duties will involve formulation, review and leadership meetings, MHA‑related work, and involvement in complex care planning meetings. Based on Royal College recommendations, outpatient work will comprise 3.5 PA; clinical admin 1 PA; MDT work 1 PA; emergencies 1 PA; and MHA work 0.5 PA. Flexibility around this guide will depend on team requirements and support.

• Qualifications: MB BS or equivalent medical qualification. Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at time of appointment. Higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management. MRCPsych or equivalent postgraduate qualification. Approved Clinician Status and Section 12 Status or achieve within 3 months.
• Clinical Knowledge: Clear communication; manage clinical complexity; evidence‑based decisions; comply with MHA and MCA duties. Wide range of specialist and sub‑specialist experience relevant to post.
• Experience: Describe clinical experience relevant to this job role. Any other applicable experience.
