Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of 205,000, including 35,714 older people. The service aims to become the gold standard for mental health care for older people in the country, providing Community Mental Health services through a full‑fledged CMHT, Memory services, and a hospital liaison service.
If patients require inpatient care, they are admitted to West Park Hospital in Darlington or Roseberry Park Hospital in Middlesbrough for functional illness, or to Auckland Park Hospital for organic illness. The Consultant for this post will have no responsibilities towards the inpatient unit or day-to-day clinical responsibilities for the Acute Hospital Liaison or Richmondshire part of CMHT services.
Main duties of the job:
- The Consultant will not hold a case load but will work to a clinical leadership model of consultation.
- Expected to manage 1–2 new referrals and up to 4 reviews per week for Hambleton CMHT.
- The memory service expects a minimum of 2 diagnostic appointments per clinic.
- Diagnoses are formulated through team meetings and can be delivered by other clinicians where appropriate.
- There are currently no CTO patients in the CMHT catchment area.
Clinical duties:
- Provide clinical leadership to the Hambleton CMHT and Memory service.
- Work jointly with colleagues from other disciplines and relevant agencies to ensure comprehensive patient care and treatment.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary working in the context of New Ways of Working in Mental Health.
- Hold Responsible Clinician (RC) status as defined within the Mental Health Act.
