Tewkesbury Academy is seeking a committed and resilient Pastoral Support Officer to support student welfare, behaviour, attendance and achievement. You will play a key role in safeguarding and promoting an inclusive environment where students feel safe, valued and able to succeed. You will act as the main contact for a cohort of students and their families, monitoring wellbeing, attendance and behaviour, and working with staff and external agencies to deliver timely support and interventions. The role also includes mentoring, small‑group work, and contributing to behaviour management and safeguarding processes.

About the role

  • Act as a key point of contact for a designated cohort of students, supporting their welfare, behaviour, attendance and overall school experience.
  • Establish effective relationships with students on a one‑to‑one and group basis, supporting their social and emotional wellbeing through structured interventions.
  • Monitor attendance, punctuality and behaviour, implementing appropriate interventions in line with academy policies and pastoral procedures.
  • Support the consistent application of the academy behaviour policy and respond to pastoral and safeguarding concerns sensitively and professionally.
  • Work closely with colleagues, parents/carers and external agencies to improve student outcomes and remove barriers to learning.
  • Contribute to the monitoring, recording and analysis of student welfare, behaviour and engagement using academy systems.
  • Deliver mentoring, intervention and support for small groups of students, both within and outside the classroom.
  • Be an integral part of our behaviour support systems undertaking duties On‑call and in our supervised spaces as required.
  • Deputise for other members of the pastoral team where required.
  • Undertake home visits in line with academy policy to support safeguarding and attendance concerns.
  • Promote inclusion, equality and acceptance of all students.
  • Manage sensitive situations and confidential information accurately and professionally.

You will have:

  • Successful experience of working in a school or similar setting with responsibility for student welfare and raising achievement.
  • Experience of liaising with external agencies and contributing to meetings that support student outcomes.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding within an educational setting and the ability to respond appropriately to concerns.
  • Knowledge of inclusion, raising achievement and current issues in student support.
  • The ability to manage information accurately and securely using paper‑based and electronic systems, including management information systems.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • A full driving licence and access to a vehicle, or willingness to meet the travel requirements of the role.
  • A MIDAS qualification, or willingness to undertake this qualification.
