The Director – R&D Strategic Sourcing & Value Management is a strategic sourcing leader responsible for driving enterprise value across Teva’s global Research & Development organization through sourcing strategy, supplier management, commercial excellence, and value realization. This role identifies and executes opportunities to optimize total cost of ownership, mitigate supplier risk, improve quality, and align sourcing decisions with R&D business priorities.
Serving as a trusted business partner, the Director translates R&D objectives, category strategies, supplier insights, and market intelligence into sourcing strategies and measurable business outcomes. The role leads complex end-to-end sourcing initiatives, including opportunity assessment, spend analysis, market evaluation, RFx execution, negotiations, contracting, supplier selection, implementation planning, and ongoing supplier performance management.
The Director strengthens long-term value delivery through supplier governance, KPI development, performance management, process improvement, and adoption of digital procurement capabilities. This highly hands-on leadership role combines strategic thinking with execution excellence to position Procurement as a valued partner supporting R&D innovation and business objectives.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Global Procurement – Research & Development, the Director leads high-impact sourcing initiatives requiring experienced strategic sourcing leadership while coaching and developing members of the Strategic Sourcing & Value Management team.
How You’ll Spend Your Day
- Business Partnering & Sourcing Strategy: Partner with R&D stakeholders, category leaders, Finance, Legal, Quality, Regulatory, Clinical Operations, and risk teams to translate business priorities into executable sourcing strategies and measurable value delivery. Establish effective ways of working, governance, decision rights, and communication routines across Procurement and key business partners. Align sourcing strategies with R&D needs, including discovery, preclinical, clinical development, clinical supply, technology, and scientific services requirements.
- Strategic Sourcing & Commercial Excellence: Lead complex sourcing initiatives, including opportunity assessment, supplier market analysis, RFx events, supplier evaluations, negotiations, award recommendations, and implementation planning. Develop sourcing strategies incorporating supplier capabilities, market intelligence, competitive dynamics, total cost of ownership, pricing models, and business requirements. Strengthen contracting and commercial discipline through benchmarking, negotiation strategies, pricing governance, service-level expectations, risk allocation, and value protections. Drive consistent sourcing processes, tools, and best practices that improve quality, speed, transparency, compliance, and stakeholder experience.
- Value Management, Analytics & Digital Enablement: Leverage spend analytics, supplier insights, market intelligence, and business data to identify opportunities and prioritize sourcing initiatives. Deliver measurable value through savings, cost avoidance, demand management, supplier performance improvements, risk reduction, innovation, and operational effectiveness. Develop dashboards, KPIs, and executive reporting to provide visibility into sourcing performance, supplier performance, and value realization. Champion procurement technologies, automation, analytics, and AI-enabled capabilities to improve sourcing effectiveness and decision-making.
- Supplier Management & Implementation: Lead supplier strategy and governance for critical R&D suppliers, including performance expectations, executive engagement, scorecards, QBRs, issue resolution, and continuous improvement. Partner with stakeholders to manage supplier risk related to quality, capacity, compliance, data security, continuity, and business performance. Provide project leadership for complex sourcing initiatives, ensuring successful implementation, stakeholder alignment, and realization of negotiated value.
- Team Leadership & Capability Development: Lead, coach, and develop R&D Strategic Sourcing & Value Management team members through clear priorities, performance expectations, and capability building. Build organizational expertise in strategic sourcing, negotiations, supplier management, analytics, financial acumen, project leadership, digital procurement, and value realization. Maintain accountability for team delivery while actively contributing to critical sourcing initiatives.
Your Skills and Experience
- EDUCATION & LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred in Business, Supply Chain, Life Sciences, Finance, or related field. Master’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of relevant experience. Minimum five years of direct people leadership, team leadership, and/or significant matrix leadership experience.
- PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE: 10+ years of progressive experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, category management, supplier relationship management, or related disciplines, including significant experience supporting R&D, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or other regulated environments. Demonstrated success developing and executing category and sourcing strategies, leading complex commercial negotiations, supplier evaluations, contracting, and value realization initiatives within complex global organizations. Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical R&D value chain, outsourcing models, and supplier ecosystems, with proven commercial, analytical, and financial acumen, the ability to influence senior stakeholders, and experience leading teams through direct and/or matrix leadership.
- LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES & SKILLS: Hands-on strategic sourcing leader who combines business partnership, commercial acumen, and execution excellence to develop category strategies and deliver measurable business value. Trusted business partner with the ability to influence stakeholders, navigate complex organizations, and balance cost, quality, speed, innovation, compliance, and risk in support of business objectives. Strong commercial and analytical leader with expertise in supplier markets, negotiations, contracting, value creation, and data-driven decision-making. Effective people and change leader who develops high-performing teams, drives accountability, manages complex initiatives, and communicates effectively with executive and cross-functional stakeholders.
Also Good to Have:
- Experience supporting R&D categories, including CROs, FSP/FSO models, central laboratories, bioanalytical services, toxicology, clinical technologies, clinical supply, research services, or related supplier ecosystems.
- Experience developing category management capabilities, procurement operating models, supplier governance programs, or value management processes within global, matrixed R&D organizations.
- Experience leveraging procurement technologies, analytics platforms, AI-enabled solutions, or relevant professional certifications (e.g., CPSM, ISM, APICS, PMP, Lean Six Sigma, or related disciplines).
