Lead the transition to a more sustainable built environment. Join an award-winning sustainability team where your expertise will directly influence the environmental performance of some of the UK's most exciting development projects. This is an opportunity to take ownership of high-profile sustainability certifications and carbon assessments, work alongside industry-leading technical specialists, and help clients achieve ambitious Net Zero and ESG objectives. If you thrive on solving complex sustainability challenges and want to shape lower-carbon, future-ready buildings, we'd love to hear from you.

Purpose & Scope of the Role

As a Senior Sustainability Consultant, you will lead the delivery of sustainability certification and consultancy services across a diverse portfolio of projects. Taking ownership of BREEAM, WELL and Home Quality Mark (HQM) assessments from initial client engagement through to certification, you will provide expert guidance that helps clients achieve industry-leading sustainability outcomes. You will also undertake Whole Life Carbon Assessments (WLCA), supporting informed decision-making and helping to reduce environmental impact across the built environment.

Working within a specialist sustainability team that forms part of a wider Building Services Group, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams, clients and technical experts to navigate evolving sustainability requirements, planning obligations and Net Zero commitments. The role combines technical excellence, project leadership, client advisory responsibilities and team development, offering the opportunity to make a tangible impact on projects ranging from individual developments to large-scale national portfolios.

The team delivers a broad range of services, including BREEAM assessments, Whole Life Carbon Assessments, sustainability statements, embodied carbon studies, daylight analysis, overheating assessments and circular economy strategies for clients across both public and private sectors. Current projects span the full building lifecycle and include major national portfolios, creating opportunities to work on technically challenging and commercially significant commissions.

Your Impact in this Position

From day one, you will play a key role in delivering sustainability and certification projects that create measurable environmental and social value. During your first year, you will establish yourself as a trusted consultant, managing your own portfolio of projects, building strong client relationships and delivering high-quality technical solutions across a varied client base. As your experience within the team grows, you will have the opportunity to influence the future direction of sustainability services, identify new growth opportunities and contribute to the development of innovative service offerings. Your expertise will help shape client strategies, support business growth and enhance the team's market-leading reputation. Long term, you will gain exposure to nationally significant projects, develop specialist expertise in sustainability and carbon assessment, and benefit from a strong commitment to professional development.

Whether progressing towards Chartered status, expanding specialist accreditations or mentoring future sustainability professionals, you will have the support and opportunities needed to advance your career.

Core Capabilities

  • Building Certification Expertise: You will be recognised as a technical authority in building sustainability certification, bringing extensive experience across BREEAM, WELL and HQM, together with a strong understanding of wider sustainability frameworks. Leading assessments from concept through to certification, you will develop sustainability strategies, establish performance targets, coordinate evidence submissions and work closely with project teams to achieve exceptional outcomes.
  • Whole Life Carbon Assessment Expertise: You will utilise your expertise in Whole Life Carbon Assessment methodologies to evaluate and improve both embodied and operational carbon performance across a range of developments. Applying recognised industry standards and using tools such as One Click LCA, you will deliver robust carbon assessments, option studies and data-driven recommendations that support sustainable design decisions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Success in this role depends on your ability to build trusted relationships and positively influence project outcomes. You will work closely with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, certification bodies and internal specialists, ensuring sustainability objectives are fully integrated throughout the design and delivery process.
  • Project Management and Quality Control: You will lead multiple sustainability and carbon assessment projects simultaneously, managing them from initial proposal through to successful completion. With a strong focus on planning, financial control and risk management, you will ensure projects are delivered efficiently, profitably and to the highest professional standards.
  • Communication Skills: You will be an effective communicator with the ability to present complex sustainability challenges and technical findings in a clear, engaging and commercially relevant way.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

You will hold a degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Architecture, Climate Change or a related discipline, together with BREEAM Assessor accreditation and proven experience delivering BREEAM assessments through both Design Stage and Post Construction certification. Essential experience includes undertaking Whole Life Carbon Assessments and using One Click LCA software. Additional accreditations such as BREEAM AP, WELL AP, LEED, NABERS or similar, experience in BREEAM In-Use, WELL or HQM assessments, progress towards Chartered status, and expertise in Net Zero strategies, carbon management or circular economy principles would be advantageous.

Working Environment

We offer a flexible and collaborative working environment that combines office, home and site-based working. You'll work closely with colleagues across the wider Building Services Group while enjoying the flexibility of hybrid working arrangements that support both effective collaboration and individual productivity.
