Our Geo-Environmental & Mining (GEM) Business Unit comprises Land Quality, Ground Investigation, Groundwater & Geothermal and Mining disciplines undertaking a diverse range of projects across numerous sectors including Energy, Defence, Property & Government Services. The successful candidate will become a member of this 100 strong Business Unit delivering focused solutions for our growing key client base, with emphasis on technical excellence, client care and effective project management.
He or she will be working alongside other land quality, environmental due diligence, ground investigation, groundwater and geo-technical specialists to deliver holistic solutions to clients’ needs in these areas. Additionally, the successful candidate will be collaborating with geo-environmental teams in other offices and with other specialists in the planning, environment and engineering teams.
Key attributes required for the position are sound technical knowledge, enthusiasm, self-motivation and excellent verbal and written communication skills. We anticipate the role will require approximately 50% of your time to be site based (typically around London and the SE but occasionally further afield nationally and internationally) and 50% will be office based, but this may vary as workload dictates.
You will hold a degree in geology, engineering geology, hydrogeology or relevant environmental science discipline. Whilst not essential, it would be beneficial for you to have a post graduate qualification such as a Master’s degree. You should also be working towards Chartership with a relevant body, such as CIWEM, IEMA or Geo Soc. You will also have post graduate industry experience.
An understanding of current contaminated land technical guidance, Part 2A legislation and the development planning regime is required. You must have experience of, and be confident in, managing and supervising ground investigation on site, including groundwater and ground gas monitoring and have the skills and knowledge to interpret data. Any specific site works accreditations/qualifications held will be an advantage (e.g. SMSTS, SSSTS, CSCS etc).
You will be knowledgeable in current practice and governing standards/guidance for the investigation and remediation of contaminated land and must be able to produce Phase 1 geo-environmental desk top study reports incorporating preliminary risk assessment and Phase 2 interpretative reports including qualitative and quantitative risk assessments. You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be fully IT literate as you will be required to write clear, concise and technically robust reports. You must have a good understanding of health, safety and environmental management. A full, preferably clean, driving license is required.
