We are seeking a full-time Chartered Engineer with a strong technical background to support delivery of structural engineering projects within the nuclear sector. This role is suited to an experienced engineer who wishes to remain primarily focused on technical excellence, complex problem-solving and high-quality design within a highly regulated environment.
The role will involve hands-on engineering design, analysis and technical assurance, working as part of multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, compliant and robust engineering solutions. There is no requirement for formal line management, allowing the role holder to focus on technical delivery and expertise.
Role Responsibilities- Deliver high-quality engineering design and analysis for nuclear projects from concept through to detailed design and implementation.
- Produce, review and technically assure calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports in accordance with nuclear, industry and statutory standards.
- Act as a technical specialist within project teams, providing expert input and supporting robust engineering decision-making.
- Contribute to nuclear safety cases, substantiation and design justification activities where required.
- Support independent checking, verification and technical assurance activities.
- Work collaboratively with other disciplines, clients and stakeholders to resolve complex technical challenges.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant standards, guidance and best practice within the nuclear industry.
- Promote high standards of health, safety, security and quality within all aspects of technical delivery.
- Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional institution.
- Significant technical experience delivering engineering design within the nuclear industry or similarly regulated sectors.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex technical challenges.
- Excellent understanding of nuclear safety, quality and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to produce clear, accurate and well-structured technical documentation.
- Professional and collaborative approach to working within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong personal accountability for technical quality and compliance.
- Experience contributing to nuclear safety cases, substantiation or design justification.
- Experience undertaking independent technical checking or assurance roles.
- Familiarity with working directly with nuclear clients, licensees or duty holders.
- Experience supporting or advising less experienced engineers in a technical capacity.
- Degree (or equivalent) in Civil, Structural or a related engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status with a recognised professional institution.
- Continued professional development to maintain Chartered status.
- Technical training aligned with nuclear standards, guidance and emerging best practice.
- Opportunities to develop further technical specialism or subject-matter expertise.
The role will require the ability to obtain and maintain UK security clearance. A full UK driving licence may be required for site and client visits.
