Purpose and scope of the role: Tetra Tech’s Water Consultancy is seeking an Associate Director – Wastewater Asset Planning and Modelling to lead a growing Wastewater Consulting team and act as technical lead on major frameworks across the UK. Based in Warrington or Manchester, you will oversee the delivery of wastewater asset planning and modelling, and catchment strategies from early feasibility through to detailed design, with a particular focus on framework delivery, client leadership and team development. You will be responsible for technical assurance, programme coordination, commercial performance, HSE, quality and governance across significant projects, while supporting bids, proposals and strategic client relationships.
Your impact in this position: Initially, you will provide strong technical and team leadership across active framework commissions. Over time, you will build capability within the team, improve delivery consistency and strengthen client confidence through high‑quality outputs and responsive service. Longer term, you will help shape the direction of wastewater asset planning and modelling delivery across the UK, influence investment decisions, and lead innovative, resilient and low‑carbon solutions for major water industry clients.
- Team leadership – Proven ability to lead, mentor and develop wastewater consulting professionals, building a collaborative and high‑performing team culture.
- Framework delivery – Experience acting as a lead on multi‑client frameworks, managing priorities, relationships and technical outputs across concurrent commissions.
- Asset planning and modelling expertise – Strong technical background in InfoWorks ICM, model build, verification, calibration and the development of catchment strategies.
- Commercial and governance oversight – Ability to manage programme performance, commercial risk, quality assurance and HSE responsibilities on complex projects.
- Client and business development – Confident in leading client conversations, supporting bids and proposals, and representing the business at senior level with clarity and credibility.
Skills, qualifications and experience: A degree in a relevant technical discipline is essential; a postgraduate qualification is desirable. Chartered status, or working towards chartership, is preferred, along with membership of a relevant professional body such as CIWEM, ICE or IWater.
Work patterns and locations: This role can be based in Warrington or Manchester, with hybrid working supported. Regular office, client and site visits will be expected to maintain strong collaboration and delivery across UK frameworks. Flexible working arrangements can be considered. In alignment with the Equality Act 2010, we will make reasonable adjustments to support candidates and employees requiring additional arrangements. This could include adaptations to work schedules, training approaches, or the physical workspace.
