About the role
RPS, a Tetra Tech company, is looking for a Senior Ecologist to join our East of England ecology team. The position is based in Norwich or Cambridge, with candidates required to be in Norfolk, Suffolk or Lincolnshire; remote work is possible.
Responsibilities
- Design and lead protected species surveys for major development projects throughout the East of England.
- Author a range of typical ecology reports (PEA, EcIA, EIA, HRA, BNG, LEMP, CEMP).
- Complete Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments, including baseline habitat surveys, habitat condition assessments, biodiversity metric calculations, and preparation of reports.
- Design and implement ecological mitigation strategies, including mitigation licences for bats, great crested newts, dormice, badgers, and water voles.
- Assist in the preparation of fee proposals and tenders.
- Manage ecological projects, including client liaison and project finances.
- Support the development of junior team members through learning opportunities and work shadowing.
Qualifications & Certifications
- Bachelor\’s and/or Master’s degree in Ecology or a closely related field.
- Competent in UK Habitat Classification and habitat condition assessments.
- Experience designing and delivering typical ecology surveys and interpreting findings to inform robust ecological assessments.
- Experience designing/delivering ecological mitigation, including protected species licensing and Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW).
- Have, or be eligible for, CIEEM Membership.
- Hold at least one protected species survey licence (great crested newt and bats highly desirable).
- FISC Level 4 highly desirable but not essential.
- Hold a full UK driving licence, insured for business purposes, and be willing to travel to sites throughout the region; overnight accommodation may be required.
Location & Working Conditions
Based in Norwich or Cambridge; candidates should live in Norfolk, Suffolk, or Lincolnshire. Remote work may be considered. The role involves fieldwork with flexible hours, allowing time off in lieu (TOIL) and work‑by‑week flex‑time.
