Reporting directly to the Technical Director for Design Management, you will lead and manage Tetra Tech design consultants and design subconsultants inputs on projects. You will primarily be delivering projects within the Midlands and Southern region as well as the wider UK Engineering teams.

In your role, with support from the Design Manager, you will liaise with the project controls team to manage the commercial aspects of the design and align design risks with commercial outcomes. You will lead on technical risk management and mitigations for the client and will be working on large, multi‑disciplinary projects in the defence, science, nuclear and government property sectors.

Pre Contract, Inc Work Winning and Tenders

  • Assists the Design Manager and bid/project teams where support is being provided for a bid process and identify and coordinate the multi‑disciplinary design team inputs to the bid process.
  • Provide assistance in formulating fee proposals and proposal documents as required by the Design Manager and project/bid team.
  • Ensure compliance at project opportunity outset with the Tetra Tech Project Lifecycle governance process.
  • Develop and manage the Project Execution Plan in conjunction with design discipline leads, including design deliverables and programme.

Live Projects Overview

  • Supports the Design Manager in managing multidisciplinary design teams, to allow the production of coordinated design solutions, within the agreed programme and budget.
  • Assists in delivering complete, accurate and viable design information in a timely manner.
  • Reviews and challenges the information received.
  • Uses workshops to ensure the project team fully coordinate design solutions, while implementing effective design solutions.
  • Undertaking design related risk management reviews workshop with project team and input into project risk register.
  • Produces Progress Reports as required for projects.
  • To ensure compliance throughout each project design stage with the Tetra Tech Project Lifecycle governance process and the Project Execution Plan.

Financial and Reporting

  • Coordinates the design process to an agreed commercial proposal.
  • Actively manages the commercial and contractual project risk profile, including pre‑emptive mitigation.
  • Fully understands the project contract, including all subsequent contract variations.
  • Actively manages the change control mechanisms to maintain/improve the project commercial performance.
  • Assists in project forecasting, application for payments and invoicing as required and agreed with the Design Manager and Project Manager.

Systems and Quality

  • Supports and assists the design process to produce designs which are compliant with all applicable regulations and obtain the requisite approvals.
  • Coordinates the design process to produce information to agreed design programme.

Controls

  • Monitors and support the implementation of project specific design management process and protocols e.g., design execution plan, in line with Tetra Tech's design procedures and reporting process against programme.
  • Ensure effective implementation and management of document control processes of design information relating in line with Tetra Tech and/or client's procedures.
  • Supports and coordinates design and specialist consultants and third‑party consultants to the agreed scope of service.
  • If required for the project, supports the Design Manager in chairing and leading design coordination meetings and/or workshops and issues actions to all involved.
  • Attend Design Team Meetings lead by client, input into the meetings and take and distribute notes and actions as required.
  • Supports the Design Manager in managing the Client review process as identified in the contract.

About you

  • Previous experience as a Design Coordinator preferred.
  • An enthusiastic and professional approach.
  • Adaptable with good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good attitude to health and safety practices within the work place and design.
  • Fully IT literate and proficient in the use of standard Microsoft Office.
  • Be suitable for security clearance (all staff need to be security vetted to a minimum SC level).
  • Located in the Midlands / South of England with flexibility to travel.
