Purpose & Scope of the Role

We're seeking talented graduates to join our Defence Safety team in Basingstoke. You'll work alongside experienced engineers and contribute to the design and delivery of defence equipment across land, sea and air. This ranges from cutting edge unmanned air systems to high risk airborne equipment and diving projects that respond to the challenges of the evolving safety and security world we find ourselves in. You'll be joining a collaborative team of defence safety professionals within a high-performing consultancy. With decades of experience and a reputation for technical excellence, our business spans: Independent Safety Audit, Safety Management Systems, Hazard Analysis, Hazard Log construction / maintenance, Safety Case and Safety Case Report development.

Your Impact in this Position:

As a Graduate Defence Safety Consultant, you'll play a key role in supporting the technical delivery of projects. You'll gain hands‑on experience across the full project lifecycle-from concept design to in-service operations.

You'll collaborate across disciplines, attend client meetings and site visits, and contribute to the production of safety arguments. With mentorship from senior engineers and access to a structured development programme, you'll build the skills, confidence, and experience needed to progress toward chartership and beyond.

• In‑depth technical training in your core discipline, plus exposure to 15 technical and 8 interpersonal topics
• Quarterly development reviews to track your progress
• Opportunities to shadow senior colleagues and contribute to diverse projects

Your Pathway:

You'll be assigned a location, cost centre, line manager, and a ‘home’ technical discipline based on your qualifications and business needs. If you wish to explore a different discipline at the end of the programme, we'll consider this based on your interests and business requirements.

Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Partnership

As part of the scheme, you'll have access to the CMI Foundation Chartered Manager pathway through flexible, online Bite Size programs. Choose from a range of topics- including Managing Change, Leading in a Digital Age, Conflict Resolution, Project Management, and Data‑Driven Decision Making - to build your leadership and management skills.

• Short, focused modules you can complete at your own pace
• Practical insights to strengthen your management capabilities
• Internationally recognised certification upon completion
• Option to progress to a Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management

Each program consists of three concise modules (totalling 85-135 minutes), scheduled in your second year. Complete activity sheets to demonstrate your learning and earn your Foundation Chartered Manager certification.

Qualifications

Must have achieved, or be on track to achieve, a relevant degree in either one of the following courses; Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/ Electronic Engineering, Aeronautical / Aerospace Engineering.

This is a full‑time role that is initially office‑based, moving towards an agile working arrangement with a minimum of three days per week in the office.
