We are seeking a full-time Principal Transport Planner or Senior Transport Planner for our Transport North team, based in either Newcastle or Leeds, with hybrid working allowing for a mix of in-office and home-working. You will join a well-established team delivering a wide variety of interesting projects for clients in the private and public sectors.
Our clients typically include housing and commercial developers, local authorities, highway authorities, architects, town-planners and other professionals. Your work will primarily be development-related transport planning and will include preparation of Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, transport chapters for Environmental Impact Assessments, and other development-related transport reports. You will also mentor and support junior staff and stay up to date with current practices, guidelines, etc in our field. You will undertake site visits and attend meetings as required. The role will involve some client liaison, such as attending meetings and assisting with work-winning through preparing fee proposals. Full support will be provided on a day-to-day basis by an experienced transport planning professional.
Responsibilities- Prepare Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, transport chapters for Environmental Impact Assessments, and other development-related transport reports.
- Mentor and support junior staff; stay current with industry practices and guidelines.
- Undertake site visits and attend meetings as required.
- Engage in client liaison, attend meetings, and assist with work-winning through preparing fee proposals.
- Receive day-to-day support from an experienced transport planning professional.
- Experience of producing Transport Assessments and Travel Plans.
- Experience of analysing, collating and interpreting data.
- Knowledge of highway design principles relevant to site access design.
- Ability to use AutoCAD and GIS software.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience of software packages such as TRICS, TEMPro, Junctions, LinSIG and Transyt.
- Previous UK work experience.
- An understanding of the UK planning process and how your work fits into that.
- Some experience of developing and maintaining client relationships would be advantageous.
- Degree or Masters in a relevant subject (e.g. transport planning, civil engineering, geography).
- Professional Accreditation, such as CIHT, CILT, TPP, or ICE.
- Drive to succeed and a willingness to get involved.
- Excellent communication skills, confidence to liaise with clients and team members.
- Methodical problem-solving and excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to produce clear, precise and coherent analysis, reports and drawings.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a skilled multi-disciplinary team.
- Knowledge of the application of transport modelling software.
