The Senior Fire Engineer will provide expert fire engineering consultancy services, ensuring the protection of people and property through comprehensive fire strategies, risk assessments, and compliance with fire safety regulations. This hybrid role involves working on-site across multiple locations and completing technical reports remotely.

Location: Homebased with travel

Salary: Up to £80,000 (all dependent on experience) plus travel allowance

Responsibilities

  • Write fire strategy reports for new buildings and retrospective reports for existing buildings using the company template.
  • Produce fire safety management plans using the company template.
  • Identify possible fire-related risks and reduce or eliminate them.
  • Create designs, calculations, sketches and/or diagrams to help prevent fire or fire spread (‘fire strategy’).
  • Incorporate fire safety procedures into designs – such as sprinkler systems, smoke control systems, fire alarms, fire service facilities and emergency escape routes and exits, to minimise the risk of injury and loss of life in the event of a fire.
  • Make recommendations for the materials used in the construction or refurbishment of a building and for existing buildings.
  • Visit project/construction sites to conduct site inspections and advise on the installation or implementation of the designs.
  • Liaise with local authorities, architects and building control professionals as and when required.
  • Contribute to delivery of projects on time and to budget; manage resources in the delivery of the projects and undertake regular project reviews.
  • Operational site experience including basic H&S requirements.

Skills and Experience Required

  • MIFireE Membership (Institution of Fire Engineers).
  • BEng, BSc, or MSc in Fire Engineering or Fire Safety.
  • Proven experience in producing fire strategy reports and fire consultancy services for both residential and commercial buildings.
  • Strong understanding of ADB, BS9999, BS9991, and other current guidance and legislation.
  • Excellent report writing and analytical skills.
  • Willingness to travel across the UK as needed.
  • Strong analytical and report writing skills.
  • Positive approach to the challenges of change and see change as an opportunity.
  • Ability to prioritise and schedule objectives to optimise time, cost and quality.

Desired Skills

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or BIM software for fire safety design.
