Are you passionate about delivering high quality patient‑centred care in a well‑equipped and established Day Surgery Department? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Theatre Practitioner with Anaesthetic skills to join our committed clinical team in the Day Surgery Unit for 20 hours a week on a permanent contract. The hospital comprises a well‑equipped theatre and purpose‑built procedure room, outpatients department, minor injury and illness unit and X‑ray. You will be working with a compassionate team committed to delivering the best in care and rated Good by the Care Quality Commission.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Theatre Practitioner with Anaesthetic Skills to join our skilled theatre team at Tetbury Hospital. The successful candidate will play a vital role in delivering high‑quality perioperative care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. You will work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, efficient and patient‑centred care.

About You

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with valid NMC registration OR Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with a valid HCPC registration.
  • Previous experience in a theatre or perioperative setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in orthopaedics, general surgery, or ophthalmology.
  • Knowledge of electronic patient record systems.
  • Good level of clinical skills within one or more of the perioperative disciplines.
  • Able to provide assistance to all disciplines, including anaesthetist and surgeon prior to, during and following surgical procedures.

Job responsibilities

  • Provide flexible, as‑needed support based on theatre scheduling and service demands.
  • Prepare the operating theatre and equipment before surgery.
  • Assist the surgical team during procedures as scrub, circulator, recovery and anaesthetic assistant.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and condition throughout the perioperative period.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care provided.
  • Adhere to infection control and health & safety protocols.
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families.
  • Participate in audits, training, and continuous professional development.
  • Contribute to a culture of teamwork, respect, and clinical excellence.

Requirements
