The predicted salary is between 60000 - 80000 Β£ per year.

This is an architect engineer hybrid role requiring good product knowledge of OpenShift with hands-on engineering expertise. The primary role is to develop solutions and business processes on the new OpenShift platform.

Role Description:

  • Part of the Virtualization Engineering Team within Distributed Compute in CTO.
  • Responsible for guiding the development and delivery of VMware products ensuring they meet business needs and customer expectations.
  • Focus on automation, availability, reliability, performance, and scale.
  • Manage complex environmental issues collaborating with wider teams such as Operations, Applications Engineering, Connectivity, and vendors.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards and SRE best practices through platform constraints and high-fidelity system modelling.
  • Undertake all processes and procedures that underpin effective and efficient engineering solutions to support business-critical services hosted on the VMware shared platform.
  • Drive Service Sustainability Transformation and SRE initiatives within the team, drive automation of routine tasks, and ensure improved service reliability through engineering solutions.
  • Lead and mentor a team of VMware engineers within the POD structure.
  • Responsible for people and performance management of the team.
  • Design, deploy, and manage VMware vSphere, vRO, vRLI, and related technologies.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of the virtual environment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver infrastructure solutions for business needs.
  • Drive automation initiatives using tools such as PowerCLI, Ansible, or vRealize Suite.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation standards and best practices.
  • Participate in capacity planning, disaster recovery, and business continuity activities.
  • Stay updated with the latest VMware technologies and industry trends.
  • Engage key stakeholders to ensure product success and value, communicate issues, progress, and resolutions for critical incidents, and liaise between operations and engineering teams.
  • Continuously monitor compliance and mitigate risks using tools like vRealize Operations, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and internal policies.
  • Manage and improve product offerings throughout their lifecycle using Agile methodologies, assess resource needs for critical services.
  • Share regular product updates with stakeholders, ensuring products are updated and compliant with supported versions, and communicate CVEs promptly.
  • Provide technical direction and leadership ensuring best practices in VMware products, distributed systems, servers, and storage.
  • Handle crisis situations efficiently, representing the team in major incident calls and providing technical expertise.
  • Implement robust monitoring and ingest systems to proactively manage platform health.
  • Ensure system availability and performance meeting defined SLAs and SLOs.
  • Plan for future capacity needs and optimize system performance through tuning and scaling.

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • 15 years of total IT experience with large scale IT Infrastructure and 12 years of experience with Distributed Systems.
  • Experience with Linux, Windows, High Availability Solutions, Server Hardware, and VMware products.
  • Diploma/B.E/B.Tech/M.Tech/M.Sc in Computer Science/IT preferred or any engineering field considered or equivalent.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Experienced in managing and maintaining VMware products (vSphere, vCenter, vROPS, vRO, vRLI, vRLCM) within the banking finance domain.
  • Proven ability to lead and drive engineering deliveries through automation using PowerCLI, Python, Ansible, vRO workflows in large scale virtualization infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of network and storage technologies in relation to distributed systems, especially VMware platform.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in managing the entire lifecycle of hardware and software from planning and deployment to maintenance and decommissioning.

Mandatory Skills: CI/CD Architecture, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Oracle Linux Administration, VMware Tanzu.
