Apprentice Business Support Officer – Legal and Democratic Service. May/June start. Andover. 37 hours per week. 18 month Fixed Term Contract.

We have an exciting opportunity in our busy Business Support team. The team is part of the Council’s Legal and Democratic Service where you’ll be working alongside experienced colleagues to gain valuable skills whilst also studying for a Level 3 Business Administration qualification.
The Legal and Democratic Service underpins every aspect of the Council’s activities, including support for Councillors, decision making, elections, legal services and supporting communities to plan and prioritise for their future. As well as providing administration support to the legal service, the team provides a range of project and business support for wider democratic and corporate services.
The varied nature of the role means you will be involved in diverse and innovative projects across the Council offering a real insight into how local government works and the opportunity to be part of, and continue to build on, the Council’s nationally recognised good practice in working with communities at a place-based level to promote democracy, sustainability and resilience.
Test Valley Borough Council provides a skills programme throughout our apprentices’ first year of employment where they attend regular workshops to build workplace skills such as communication, presentation, first aid, project management and an opportunity for job shadowing. Attending these events also enables our apprentices to meet up with apprentices from across the Council and begin to build a network of contacts and support. All apprentices are offered a mentor to provide confidential guidance and advice to help with learning, development and building confidence at work. We place a high value on our apprentices.
Responsibilities
- Provide administration and business support within the Legal and Democratic Service and related projects.
- Support Councillors, decision-making processes, elections and community planning activities.
- Contribute to place-based community engagement and development initiatives.
- Participate in a range of projects across the Council, gaining exposure to local government operations.
- Engage with mentors and participate in the skills programme and workshops for workplace development.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Ideally 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (previously Grade C) or above including Maths and English or equivalent; if not achieved, the Council will support attainment.
- Willingness to study for a Level 3 Business Administration qualification.
- Positive “can do” attitude; commitment to learning new skills; and willingness to be innovative.
