About the Opportunity
Connex Education are recruiting enthusiastic and motivated Trainee Teaching Assistants to support a range of welcoming primary schools across Portishead and nearby areas. Flexible opportunities include day‑to‑day supply, short‑term cover, and long‑term placements beginning in September 2026. We partner with a highly regarded Multi‑Academy Trust across the Southwest, known for supportive leadership, inclusive approach to education, and commitment to staff development and pupil wellbeing. This position is ideal for anyone looking to gain valuable classroom experience and begin a rewarding career within education.
As a Trainee Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pupils across EYFS, KS1 and KS2, helping to create engaging and positive learning experiences.
Responsibilities
- Supporting pupils within the classroom environment
- Working with children on a one-to-one basis and in small groups
- Assisting teachers with lesson preparation and classroom activities
- Encouraging pupil participation and confidence
- Helping to maintain a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment

Person Specification
- Have a genuine passion for supporting children and young people
- Are interested in pursuing a career in education
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Are adaptable, positive and reliable
- Can build strong professional relationships with pupils and staff
- Have experience working with children (preferred but not essential)
- Have knowledge of Phonics or Read Write Inc. (desirable)
- Hold a DBS on the updated service or are willing to apply for one
