EAL Teaching Assistant Job Description As an EAL Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside experienced teachers and specialist EAL staff to support students whose first language is not English.

You will play an important role in helping pupils develop their English language skills while enabling them to access the secondary curriculum with confidence.

This Teaching Assistant position is ideal for graduates, experienced Learning Support Assistants, ESOL tutors, language specialists and aspiring teachers looking to build a long-term career in education.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver one-to-one and small group intervention for EAL learners.
  • Support students working at Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 English proficiency.
  • Assist students with speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
  • Help pupils access lessons across the secondary curriculum.
  • Work closely with teachers and the EAL department to monitor student progress.
  • Promote confidence, inclusion and academic achievement.
  • Support newly arrived students as they settle into school life.

Person Specification

  • Experience working with children, young people or EAL learners.
  • A CELTA, TEFL, ESOL or equivalent qualification (desirable).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A passion for supporting multilingual learners.
  • A desire to pursue a career in teaching, education or educational support.
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a busy secondary school.
