About the role
We are seeking an inspiring and dedicated GCSE English & Functional Skills Lecturer to join our English department. You will deliver GCSE and Functional Skills English to vocational learners aged 16‑18 as well as a growing cohort of adult students. This is a rewarding opportunity to support learners who are combining vocational studies with essential English qualifications, helping them progress to higher education or employment.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver GCSE and Functional Skills English lessons to vocational and adult learners.
- Support learners combining vocational studies with essential English qualifications, helping them progress to higher education or employment.
- Engage and inspire reluctant learners, manage challenging behaviour, and deliver lessons both in‑person and online.
Qualifications and experience
- A degree in English or a related subject (or Level 3 qualification with 2+ years of proven English/literacy teaching experience).
- CELTA or equivalent qualification.
- Level 5 teaching qualification (DET, PGCE) or willingness to work towards one with college support.
- Experience teaching GCSE, Functional Skills English, EFL, ESOL or literacy, ideally within an FE setting.
- Strong communication, classroom management and IT skills.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, safeguarding, and ongoing professional development.
- Flexibility to teach one evening class weekly (Thursday until 9 pm).
