Sandwell College is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in GCSE English Language on a full time, permanent basis. The postholder will be responsible for delivering GCSE English programmes to resit learners aged 16-18 years, supporting learner progress and achievement, and contributing to curriculum development and quality improvement activities. The role requires a consistent focus on high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment, alongside effective learner support within a further education setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure students have a rewarding and challenging learning experience that supports them in reaching their full potential and achieving strong academic outcomes.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of teaching and learning quality, promoting positive student outcomes and an engaging College experience.
  • Deliver allocated programmes as directed by the line manager.
  • Participate in curriculum planning and development.
  • Maintain accurate academic and administrative records.
  • Carry out administrative responsibilities in line with College policies.
  • Take responsibility for course leadership, including course tutorship and personal tutoring.
  • Work collaboratively within course teams to ensure high-quality delivery.
  • Be flexible to work at other campuses.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in English.
  • A Certificate in Education or Level 5 Teaching Qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
  • Experience delivering and assessing GCSE English Language.
  • A strong commitment to student success and continuous professional development.
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills.

Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding

To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£31,837 - £48,160), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:

  • DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector).
  • Certificate in Education.
  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education).
  • ProfGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education).
  • DET (Diploma in Education and Training).
  • DiT (Diploma in Teaching) - if for a vocational subject.

If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£26,661 - £29,998).

Not Accepted as Stand Alone Qualifications

  • PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector).
  • CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector).
  • CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults).
