About the CfBT Project
CfBT is one of the top twenty charities in the UK and has been working with the Brunei Darussalam government for over 30 years in support of their bilingual education policy. Teachers working in Brunei are assigned to state schools to teach English and help mentor Bruneian teachers. The focus is to raise the proficiency and attainment levels of Bruneian students through high impact teaching and learning in classrooms, specialised national support and intervention programmes. The project is a directive from the Ministry of Education and as such you will be holding what is considered a very high level and important role, making a real difference in the lives of Bruneian children and their teachers. There are 200+ Primary and Secondary teachers on this programme with many teachers staying and settling in Brunei for a number of years.
Living and Working in Brunei
Brunei is a small, peaceful country on the island of Borneo in South East Asia. It is surrounded by pristine tropical jungle and beaches with temperatures around 27 – 30 degrees all year. It is a safe and welcoming country and fantastic place to live: a modern wealthy country with plentiful amenities and amazing travel opportunities. Eco tourism is blossoming in Brunei and there are plenty of national parks to explore. Not only is this an opportunity to help shape the bilingual education of this wonderful country, but an opportunity to live in one of the most amazing parts of the world.
CfBT Requirements
- Degree qualified teacher: B.Ed or Bachelors + PGCE
- 3 years of post-qualifying teaching experience – in English/ESL/Humanities at middle/high school level
- ESL teaching experience is preferred
- Holding a TEFL certificate is highly desirable
- You must be under 55 years of age due to Brunei government regulations
- A driving license is required, as you will need to travel by car to school
- Cultural and Professional adaptability, flexibility and resilience
- Team player who will share knowledge with CfBT and Bruneian colleagues
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong administrative skills including teaching records and student learning/progress
