Your new company Hays Education is working in partnership with a diverse network of secondary schools across London, many of which have a high proportion of students with English as an Additional Language (EAL). Due to increasing demand, we are recruiting experienced and dedicated EAL Specialists to support students in accessing the curriculum and achieving their full potential.
Your new role As an EAL Specialist, you will support students aged 11-16 (and up to 18 in some settings) who are at various stages of English language acquisition. You will play a key role in helping pupils develop their language skills, build confidence, and fully engage in school life.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting EAL students within mainstream lessons across a range of subjects
- Delivering targeted 1:1 and small group interventions to develop English language skills
- Assisting students with reading, writing, speaking, and listening development
- Adapting learning materials to ensure accessibility for EAL learners
- Encouraging student confidence and participation in the classroom
- Working closely with teachers and SEN/EAL coordinators to track progress and implement strategies
What you'll need to succeed:
- Have experience supporting students with English as an Additional Language
- Possess strong spoken and written English skills (additional languages are advantageous)
- Be patient, supportive, and culturally aware in your approach
- Have excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships
- Be confident working in a secondary school environment
- Hold (or be willing to obtain) an enhanced DBS check
A background in education, linguistics, TESOL, or language support is highly desirable.
