Connex Education are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within specialist educational settings, covering both primary and secondary phases. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and progress.
  • Support the delivery of personalised learning and behaviour strategies.
  • Assist students in developing emotional regulation, social skills, and confidence.
  • Promote a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, parents/carers, and external professionals.
  • Support behaviour management in line with school policies.
  • Monitor and record student progress and wellbeing.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs is desirable.
  • Calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to remain resilient and professional in challenging situations.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, psychology, or youth work are advantageous but not essential.
