Key Responsibilities

  • Represent Infrastructure/Systems Engineering across Tesco Technology and with suppliers.
  • Ensure exceptional delivery that prioritises customer needs while engaging teams and colleagues.
  • Serve as an expert and primary management layer for people or projects.
  • Architect, design, and deliver solutions using existing infrastructure components; implement and establish best practices for new technologies.
  • Resolve complex, unprecedented problems strategically and drive change for future ease of handling issues.
  • Contribute to the Tesco Technology Data Centres Roadmap.
  • Evaluate new tools and techniques for their value and impact.
  • Understand current application development techniques (e.g., 12-factor app) and their infrastructure implications.
  • Lead design discussions and present confidently to diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineers to seamlessly integrate Infrastructure requirements.
  • Coach and mentor junior system engineers, demonstrating leadership qualities.
  • Ensure high-quality design outputs and understand their impacts on infrastructure.
  • Keep technical skills current and explore benefits of new technologies for Tesco.
  • Introduce automation into daily work processes.
  • Communicate effectively in English with leaders and engineers.

Networks Transport Team Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, and operate Network and Security infrastructure technologies to support Infrastructure and Tesco Technology.
  • Develop resilient, large-scale infrastructure solutions for internal and external consumption.
  • Set strategy, objectives, and high-level plans for Network Infrastructure Service.
  • Establish and oversee standards and simplification efforts across networks.
  • Drive innovation through transformation and continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate technology partners, software, and hardware for optimal delivery.
  • Design and operate network solutions using automation technologies and APIs.
  • Develop reusable infrastructure solutions aligned with business needs, collaborating with development teams.

  • Experience designing and deploying solutions in large, complex organisations.

  • Knowledge of cloud networking (Azure, AWS).
  • VPN, load balancing, and global DNS technologies.
  • Understanding of web and network management technologies.

Desired Technical Skills

  • Firewall platforms (Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, Checkpoint, Fortinet).
  • Remote access and authentication solutions (RSA, Juniper/Pulse, Cisco ISE).
  • Threat detection technologies and SDN/automation tools (GIT, Chef, Ansible, Puppet).
