Overview
Tesco Insurance is located in Edinburgh and offers a permanent position. The salary ranges from £80,000 to £100,000, plus an annual bonus and benefits. This role requires hybrid office attendance, with the expectation of travelling to the office 2 to 3 days per week.
We deal in personal insurance, including pet insurance, home insurance, motor insurance, and travel money. Our approach is characterised by warmth and friendliness, whether we are assisting customers or supporting our team.
What you’ll be doing:
- Take ownership of the Financial Control Framework.
- Be responsible for the First Line of defence for Tesco Underwriting Finance.
- Develop and improve internal financial controls.
- Ensure compliance with ICFR (Internal Controls over Financial Reporting) framework.
- Ensure consistency between ICFR and the company’s Risk Management framework.
- Ongoing updates of finance policies.
- Continuous improvement of processes and controls documentation.
- Liaise with actuaries, parent company, and external auditors.
- Collaborate with underwriting & pricing, claims, and actuarial teams to pre-empt financial implications.
- Present financial reporting to senior leadership.
- Support the Head of Financial Reporting & Control in managing the reporting team, including day-to-day oversight, coaching, and mentoring.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture where people feel connected and thrive.
- Act as a role model and technical lead, providing guidance on complex accounting and reporting issues.
- Manage workload planning and resource allocation to meet tight deadlines across multiple reporting cycles.
- Contribute to production and review & challenge of statutory accounts, Solvency UK QRTs, and Solvency and Financial Condition Report.
- Ensure compliance with PRA reporting requirements.
- Support the commercial finance team to ensure forecasts reflect business drivers and emerging trends.
- Provide insightful variance analysis and commentary to support decision-making and strategic planning.
We need you to have:
- Commercial acumen & knowledge of the General Insurance Market.
- Excellent analytical thinking with the ability to interpret financial data and strong attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and writing communication skills.
- Confidence in engaging with senior leadership, auditors, and cross-functional teams.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop junior finance professionals.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS (especially IFRS 17), and Solvency II/Solvency UK.
- Fully qualified accountant with a minimum of 5 years’ experience.

- Ability to work efficiently within Microsoft Office Applications, including advanced Excel.
- Prior exposure to audit or technical accounting in insurance.
- Understanding of Risk and Controls management within a regulated industry.
- Proactive in identifying inefficiencies & control weaknesses.
