We're looking for a resourceful, imaginative and bold Midweight UX Designer to join our multidisciplinary team. As a Midweight UX Designer at the UK's largest supermarket, you'll be crafting experiences that help millions of colleagues. You'll help discover new opportunities, contributing to intuitive and effortless solutions that improve every stage of a user journey. This role requires strong skills in discovery, research, and service design thinking and mapping, with the ability to translate insights into actionable design solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to shape products and services that meet user needs and business goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading discovery and research activities to uncover user needs, pain points, and opportunities, shaping intuitive and effortless experiences for millions of colleagues.
  • Designing end-to-end solutions for large and small projects, transforming complex infrastructure challenges into simple, human-centred experiences.
  • Being deeply involved in all UX processes, including service design thinking, design sprints, sketching, wireframing, low-fidelity prototyping, and mapping customer and service journeys.
  • Championing the UX voice and advocate for human-centred design principles across teams and stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with Product Managers to define user problems, build testable hypotheses, and validate solutions through research and experimentation.
  • Working within and across agile squads, improving user experiences across digital products and infrastructure systems.
  • Partnering with multidisciplinary teams—engineers, UX writers, product managers, and business stakeholders—to explore, co-create, and deliver impactful designs.
  • Facilitating workshops and participatory design sessions, driving alignment and fostering innovation.
  • Producing inclusive design executions that meet W3C accessibility standards and reflect Tesco's commitment to accessibility.
  • Delivering high-quality, consistent work at speed by leveraging Tesco's Digital Design System and contribute to its evolution based on user insights.
  • Helping teams and stakeholders understand the value of design thinking in solving complex problems and building better products.
  • Mentoring and providing feedback to peers, strengthening the design community and cultivating empathy for users.
  • Working closely with the Design Manager to nurture a positive, collaborative, and inclusive team culture.

Qualifications:

  • A strong portfolio showcasing delivered design work across web, responsive, and native apps, demonstrating expertise in solving complex problems.
  • Experience working on high-profile design projects in a customer-facing commercial environment, ideally involving infrastructure or large-scale systems.
  • Passion for tackling complex product challenges while balancing all aspects of user experience-strategy, research, information architecture, interaction design, and accessibility.
  • A solid understanding of the end-to-end iterative design process, including UX research, service design, blueprinting, journey mapping, wireframing, prototyping, and user testing to deliver human-centred solutions.
  • Proficiency with modern design and collaboration tools such as Figma, Sketch, Miro, or similar.
  • Ability to leverage quantitative and qualitative insights to inform design decisions and validate hypotheses.
  • Hands-on experience conducting or participating in user research—including interviews, observation, usability testing, and synthesizing findings into actionable insights.
  • Experience designing with accessibility in mind, meeting WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present ideas confidently to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Adaptability to change and comfort working in fast-paced, evolving environments, particularly within infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to mentor and coach junior team members, setting standards for best practices and ways of working.
  • Previous experience in the retail sector is an advantage.
