As a Lead National Technical Manager, you'll play a strategic and vital part in keeping our stores safe, legal and fully operational for our customers and colleagues, overseeing multiple technical disciplines across a national estate. You will be accountable for the direct leadership of a high-performing team of technical specialists and service support engineers, with full ownership of a £5m budget and associated supplier contracts. You'll be accountable for the delivery of large-scale national programmes and projects exceeding £5m across Mechanical Assets, Electrical LV & HV Infrastructure, Building services, CCTV and Security.
Oversees end-to-end planning, resource allocation, governance, and performance reporting, while managing supplier relationships and contract performance to ensure operational excellence, compliance, and value for money.

You will be responsible for:
- Strategic Direction: Lead technical improvement programs aligned with Tesco's operational, compliance, environmental, and safety goals. Stay ahead of regulatory changes through market insights and industry networks.
- People Leadership: Coach and empower a team of technical experts, driving high performance, accountability, and engagement while embedding Tesco values.
- Financial Oversight: Manage a £5m+ annual budget, ensuring accurate forecasting, cost efficiency, and effective contract negotiations with procurement.
- Technical Governance: Oversee standards, documentation, and compliance for installations, commissioning, and emergency plans. Act as business lead on enforcement and litigation avoidance.
- Collaboration & Standardisation: Partner with Engineering, Safety, and Legal teams to harmonise technical disciplines and champion standardisation for efficiency and repeatable solutions.
- Performance & Analytics: Use data to measure program impact, prioritise improvements, and communicate results to senior stakeholders.
- Culture & Development: Foster a collaborative, accountable culture and lead initiatives that embed learning and continuous improvement.
You will need:
- Qualified to degree level in mechanical / electrical engineering
- Considerable and demonstrable technical, mechanical and electrical experience and thorough understanding of discipline specific statutory legal compliance.
- Hold professional registration to IEng / CEng level (Desirable)
- Experience in a similar scale remote / site maintenance engineering business
- Senior stakeholder management and Influencing skills
- Advanced technical knowledge and understanding of hard services categories
- Engineering Innovation through collaboration with stakeholders
- Knowledge of asset life cycle management and maintenance methodologies / RCM / predictive maintenance strategies
- Experienced in lean methodologies, RCA and PM techniques
