Due to our continued growth, we have a rare and exciting opportunity to join our Newcastle based large Loss Claims team as a Motor Large Loss Handler. As one of the most senior members of our Claims team you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of high value personal injury cases (including cases up to Β£3 million) from first notification to settlement and will support colleagues with coaching, mentoring and development.
What you'll be doing:
- Manage a portfolio of high value personal injury claims (up to Β£3 million) to include - but not limited to - Brain Injury, Spinal cord paralysis, Complex Neurological injury and upper/lower limb amputation, within your delegated authority.
- Investigate these claims thoroughly, working with our suppliers and experts where needed to ensure full validation.
- Provide empathic support to our customers.
- As a technical expert, provide coaching and mentoring to colleagues, reviewing files, and sharing legal and market developments as required.
- Participate in and support the Technical Claims Management in the setting, implementation and embedding of technical standards and best practice.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory and risk management requirements.
- Representation of Tesco Underwriting in industry discussions and market events where required.
We need you to have (minimum experience):
- A proven track record of handling personal injury claims (up to Β£3 million) to include - but not limited to - Brain Injury, Spinal cord paralysis, Complex Neurological injury and upper/lower limb amputation.
- Ideally from a motor insurance background with a strong knowledge of indemnity and liability, detailed knowledge of legislation, market agreements and the principles of the Serious Injury Guide.
- Fully conversant with reinsurance reporting requirements, PPO management, working with Underwriters and Actuarial colleagues.
- Confident and able to fully participate in conferences with Counsel, Experts and our legal partners.
- Approachable, positive, proactive and collaborative approach to your role with the necessary strength to challenge and add value.
- Experience of coaching and mentoring colleagues.
- Accurate with a high level of attention to detail.
- Empathy and skill at handling Customers in difficult situations.

Additional Information:
- This is a full-time, permanent role Monday to Friday 9.00-17.30.
- Salary: Negotiable, dependant on experience.
- Reporting directly to the Technical Claims Manager.
- Based in Newcastle, but flexible in terms of working from home.
- Role will also require flexibility to travel to attend settlement meetings etc where appropriate.
