Office Attendance – Our roles are hybrid, however you should be able to travel to either our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices 2-3 days per week for this position (at least 1 of those days is required to be in the Edinburgh office)

We’re looking for a motivated and solutions-orientated FS Products and Regulatory Lawyer to join our legal team on a 12-month fixed term contract at Tesco Bank, part of Barclays Bank UK Plc.

Our Legal Team has the privilege of overseeing all aspects of the Tesco Bank business and acting as strategic advisors to our business colleagues. This is a career-defining opportunity to be at the forefront of the integration of Tesco Bank and Barclays, two market leading brands.

What you’ll be doing

In the role of Legal Counsel, you will be part of the wider Barclays UK Legal function specialising in consumer bank lending and saving products. You will identify and manage legal risk in delivering targeted, commercially-focused legal advice on all matters across Tesco Bank, including:

  • product terms and conditions and associated documentation,
  • customer journeys and communications,
  • responding to operational, complaint and process queries as they arise,
  • managing outsourced legal advice, and
  • offering advice in support of the integration of the Tesco Bank business with the wider Barclays business.

We need you to have

  • Qualified solicitor with valid practising certificate in a UK jurisdiction (practising certificates in relevant overseas jurisdictions may be considered)
  • Retail banking legal experience either in-house or in private practice
  • Track record of delivering pragmatic, risk-based legal advice
  • Experience of strong relationship management (both internal and external stakeholders)

And if you have any of these, even better

  • Experience in consumer credit and CONC would be advantageous and desirable, including for example an understanding of the FCA’s Consumer Duty
  • Experience in non-lending consumer banking products would be welcome
