As a Trade Maintenance Build Technician covering Newcastle-Upon-Tyne areas, you’ll play a key role in keeping our stores and carparks safe, functional, and welcoming for customers and colleagues. You’ll be part of a skilled team responsible for a wide range of building maintenance tasks—both planned and reactive—helping to ensure everything runs smoothly day to day.
Your work will include general building repairs and upkeep, such as brickwork, carpentry, pothole repairs, and drainage fixes. This is a hands‑on role where no two days are the same, so flexibility and problem‑solving skills are essential. We’re looking for someone with a solid background in general building work who can turn their hand to a variety of multi‑trade repair work and deliver high standards every time.

- Carrying out general building maintenance across Tesco sites to keep stores safe, functional, and welcoming.
- Completing planned and reactive repairs, aiming for first‑time fixes and high‑quality standards.
- Handling a variety of building tasks such as brickwork, carpentry, pothole repairs, and drainage maintenance.
- Working independently and as part of a team to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
- Communicating progress and updates clearly to relevant stakeholders.
- Using problem‑solving skills to identify practical solutions for common building issues.
- Managing tasks through to completion and maintaining accurate updates via mobile devices and business systems.
- Weekend work may be required and will be paid as overtime.
Practical experience in general building work, including:
- Bricklaying & masonry
- Roof construction and maintenance
- Cement and concrete preparation
- Groundworks & paving
- Tiling and flooring
- Plastering & dry walling
A full UK driving licence is required along with strong health & safety awareness and good communication skills for working with colleagues and stakeholders. Basic IT skills (e.g., using mobile devices and Office 365 for updates) are also necessary. A City & Guilds qualification covering both Carpentry and Joinery is advantageous.
