Availability Window

The availability shows the periods during the week when you are expected to be available to work. The role’s contracted hours will be scheduled within these times, and you will receive 3 weeks’ notice of the exact shifts. We are flexible if your availability is close to the advertised times.

Shift Leader pay: starts from ÂŁ14.76 per hour; increases to ÂŁ15.97 per hour for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may apply depending on location.

It’s our policy to offer new colleagues joining us a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week. If you’d like to work fewer hours (to a minimum of 12), we have opportunities for this too and would still love to hear from you.

Being a Shift Leader at Tesco involves supporting store operations and helping customers, colleagues, and communities. You’ll oversee the store from the shop floor and aim to make things better for customers and colleagues every day.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a fast-paced retail environment with variety.
  • Take ownership of running duty shifts, coordinating the team to deliver a clean, well-stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.
  • Be there for customers, listening and helping them leave the store with what they came for.
  • Look for ways to improve service, including coaching colleagues and giving feedback to the team.
  • Guide and support colleagues in-store, ensuring it stays a safe place to work and shop.
  • Understand store performance and assist managers in delivering actions to improve operations.
  • Lead from the front and set a great example for colleagues.

  • Coordinating the store team to deliver an easy, fuss-free shopping experience for customers.
  • Supporting colleagues to deliver daily priorities and take regular breaks.
  • Opening and closing the store, completing duty cover, and ensuring safety considerations are met.
  • Being the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of a manager for day-to-day queries.
  • Keeping the store clean, tidy, and well-presented.
  • Supporting managers to coordinate seasonal, community, and charity events.
  • Contributing to a positive, inclusive team atmosphere and delivering great customer service.
  • Keeping the team informed on communications, changes, or updates.
  • Staying knowledgeable about store performance and seeking ways to improve operations.
  • Coordinating store improvements and removing obstacles to great service.
  • Following health and safety routines and ensuring colleagues do the same.
  • Recognising and celebrating colleagues providing great service.
  • To be a great role model by delivering thoughtful customer service that meets customers’ needs.
  • Build strong relationships with colleagues to foster an inclusive team atmosphere.
  • Clear communication, using multiple methods to keep the team informed.
  • Be comfortable taking the lead and overseeing the store in the absence of the Manager.
