Job Overview
As the Buying Manager for World Foods you'll be leading a key part of the Grocery strategy, responsible for delivering growth across a diverse and dynamic category portfolio including drinks, ambient grocery, chilled and frozen foods. The role creates customer-focused ranges, builds strong supplier partnerships, and identifies opportunities to drive category performance.
The role also leads the planning and execution of key cultural and seasonal events that celebrate the diverse communities we serve. Focused on delivering for customers and communities, the World Foods Buying Manager drives innovation, value and availability while increasing market share in a highly competitive market through strong commercial leadership, strategic sourcing and excellent category management.
Key Responsibilities
- Full accountability for the end-to-end category P&L, delivering against all key KPIs including sales, profit, volume and market share measures.
- Identify and unlock Buy for Less, leading robust negotiations with suppliers to secure sustainable savings and improved commercial outcomes.
- Develop, own and execute a market-leading trade and promotional plan that drives category growth, customer penetration and outperformance versus the market.
- Shape and deliver the World Foods strategic vision, creating clear category plans that protect and grow market share across all channels.
- Continuously optimise and evolve the product range, that delivers first-to-market innovation, trend-led propositions and strong commercial performance.
- Manage supplier partnerships, co-creating and executing Buy, Move, Grow plans that unlock mutual value and long-term growth.
- Use data, insights and analytics proactively to identify opportunities, diagnose risks, guide decision-making and maximise performance across the categories.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver seamless end-to-end execution and a strong customer proposition.
- Monitor competitor activity and market trends to inform forward planning and ensure category competitiveness.
- End-to-end category ownership, including full P&L responsibility, forecasting, trade planning, financial control, KPI delivery, and driving profitable growth.
- Supplier management, including negotiations, cost price management, and Buy, Move, Grow strategy development.
- Range, pricing, and promotions management to maximise category performance and customer value.
- Strong analytical capability, using sales, customer, market, and commercial data to identify opportunities and inform data-led decision making.
- Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams, driving effective collaboration across multiple functions.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Effective critical-path management, ensuring projects and trading plans are delivered on time and to target.
